It's been awhile

Hey everybody,

It's been awhile hasn't it. But my hair is growing really well and the texture is changing. One minute I'm complaining about my hair growing slow, next thing
I know it's growing like a weed. Normally I wear lots of head bands but this week I free styled and noticed..........dang my hair is really growing. The great thing about this is I rarely use any product in my hair. My hair loves water and that's
what it gets most of the time. I think about all the useless products I used to grow my hair, to change the texture of my hair and when I go natural all I need is a few spritz of water and I am good. One thing I did do was bump my retightings up from every 8 weeks to every 4 weeks. To be honest by the time the 8th week came around I had a lil afro under my locs. Plus working in a professional enviroment makes me more conscience about my natural hair looking as good as possible. I still have quite a bit of new growth around the 4th week but I can not imagine going ever 2 weeks, I am not trying to be a salon slave again! Overall I am happy with my sisterlocks, I really can't complain.

On another note I love when my hair is freshly done. I love the parts. I've read on other blogs were people hate the parts, but they make the style look fresh and new. I had to get use to not having the parts. I had to realize that due to my course hair texture my parts would not last long. I had to accept that my nappy hair grew fast and locs were not all about parts. People are starting to accept my locs as they get longer, I actually loved them when they were real short. But during that time I caught a lot of flack. But any how just wanted to let y'all see the progress.

I've Hit The Wall

I always wondered if I would always love my sisterlocks. In the begining I thought I would always see them and smile. However, I've hit that proverberal wall. I am frustrated with my sisterlocks. I still love them but I wish I could do more with them. I've been loc'ed for 5 months and most of my ends are still loose. When will these bad boys seal? I hate my loose ends because they stick straight out instead of curling naturally. Yes I know I can rod my hair and have curls but sometimes I just do not feel like it. Actually, I've stopped rodding for the most part, because I felt like I was curling my hair too much and not proudly rocking the free style. But let's face it when you have short locks styling options is something that you can't have. If you have any suggestions , please let me know. I guess I got the sisterlock blues .... eh put it's all apart of the process. Every love affair has its issues, and we (sisterlocks and I) are have some issues. I'm getting baptized tomorrow, should I band my locks (LOL). Naw I wont be that vain, but my head will be submersed in water for a few seconds. I have no plans of getting rid of my sisterlocks anytime soon...... so I just need to get over it. I just wanted to vent.

Growing Slow..... Sort Of

My hair is growing but it is growing so slow. I still have some straight ends. I am slowly trimming the ends off. At first I was scared to trim the permed edges but I am going on 6 months of loc-dom so I decided to chance it. The sides of my hair is beginning to lock, the front and the middle are still kinda twisted looking.
My styling options are limited at this point. Either I wear head bands or I just free style. I've read in other blogs that when the hair is short and locked that it begins to coil . Well my hair is straight in the front and coils in the back. Mostly it's straight so I have to use rods if I want it to have that coily look. I know hair is unique and will do what it wants, but man I wish I had just a little more length. Yes, I am experiencing loc envy. I still love my sisterlocs, just would like some more styling options. I know that is not good to manipulate the hair too much when the ends are still straight. So with that in mind, I'mma let my hair do what it wants to do. I've been tagged but I do not know what to do just yet, but I will have that information up by the end of the week. Well I'm out, stay blessed.

Has This Ever Happened To You

Hey Ya'll,

Long time no hear eh. Well I finally purchased my lap top and got the internet, sorry for the delay. Anyway, I have a very thin loc and I am afraid they may have to combine it with another loc or it may break. The top is thin but the bottom has a big ball on the end. I really don't understand why it thinned out, because I have been very careful not to play with my hair or use too many products. Actually outside of water mixed with 3 drops of tea tree oil I don't use products. Lately I've been letting my hair do it's thing It's grown soooo much. Is there anything I can do to stop the thinning? In the pic my hair is in a bad need of a retight. I cancelled my appointment with my new consultant and she did not have another opening for 4 weeks. So I had to go 8 weeks between retights. Man I had to look crazy for two weeks before she finally hooked me up. Currently my hair has a loc'ed look to it. Most of the straight ends are gone and the texture is slowly changing. I still love my sisterlocs, they make me feel so free. My boyfriend loves my hair, which makes it easier to be my natural self.

New Consultant

Next week I am scheduled to get my hair retighten by my new consultant. My new consultant (Jeannie) asked me to come in so she could get a better idea of what my needs were and to inspect my sisterlocks. Jeannie says my sisterlocks were doing great but wanted to know what pattern my previous consultant used to start my locks. I was unsure so I called my Los Angeles consultant and she advised me that she used the #4 pattern. Once I conveyed this information to Jeannie she said that she disagreed, and in her opinion my current pattern looks more like a #3 pattern. I asked her how she came to that conclusion, she says that my pattern has holes in some of the locks and that is usually how the #3 pattern looks. In her opinion the #3 pattern is used for people with fine hair and the holes will eventually fill in , but it makes fine hair look fuller. I was worried and thought my previous consultant did something wrong, Jeannie assured me that I was okay, but she thinks that a #4 pattern would fit my hair texture best ( I have kinky, nappy, fully textured hair). I asked her if the #3 pattern would ruin my sisterlocks and she said it would not be a problem. Can you believe there is only ONE sisterlock consultant in St. Louis!!!!! Jeannie is the only one....as you can imagine she stays busy.

The first day of my new job, a sistah came up to me and asked me if I had sisterlocks. I was so excited that someone knew what type of locks I was representing. She says she wants sisterlocks but see seems kinda hesitent. I am sure after she sees my sisterlocks growing and looking better everyday she will be ready to get all loc'ed up.

My hair is growing quite nicely and is filling in at a fast rate. I love my sisterlocks and they love me back.

Freshly Tightening

I finally got my hair re tighten and it feels great. I love the look of a fresh re tight! I kinda like the parts, it looks new and well maintained. Guess what, my consultant snipped off most of my relaxed ends........ yeah. I was so happy she suggested that because the times I did not roll my hair the straight ends would stick up all over the place. Honestly, having straight ends were a pain in the butt for me, cuz I had to constantly maintain them by rolling them up at night. Some people swear they only have to roll their hair once maybe twice a week, well my hair was a different story. My hair required me to roll it three to four times a week ( which I never did). If you look at some of my past pics you can tell the times I chose to be lazy and not roll my hair (lol)...but I understand each person will have a different experience with sisterlocks. I am happy to report that since the straight ends were clipped I have only curled my hair once this week, and it looks like the curls will last for awhile. So far I have not exhibited any signs of lock envy. I actually like the short locks, it's kinda chic to me. However, I do have a lock on the right side of my hair line that is thinning in the middle. I am sure at some point this lock will break, and I am okay with that too. Pretty much at this point I am just enjoying the journey and letting my hair do it's own thang. I use to be a product junkie now I only spritz water on my hair... I am totally product free. So Sally's beauty supply, Nu-Fashion Beauty Supply, and Kings Beauty and all say goodbye to any gross profits from Black Doll.... no sir you will not be getting any of my money. Again I wanted everyone to know that I will be moving back to St. Louis this Sunday ( a new consultant has been found) so post will be a bit slower than usual. By choice, my friend and I are driving back so you'll understand if you don't hear from a sistah for a few weeks. Plus I gotta find a place asap... and the new job starts a week after I touch down, so I will be extremely busy.

What I do when I really need a retight

This is what I do when I need a retight. I simply put a head band on. Cuz to be honest with y'all it looks really unkempt when I am in great need of a retight. I know my consultant says I can wait 6 weeks in between tightings but to be honest my hair grows quick and it is very kinky so my roots starts looking like a baby fro about the 5th week. So I think I will start getting retights at 4 weeks instead of 6 weeks. I always wanted my locks to look professional and neat so I think this will be for the best. I forgot to mention that I will be relocating back to St. Louis next week so the blog may be a bit slow while I move but I will still be doing updates in between the move so don't sleep on the blog (lol)! I am kinda of happy to be going home, plus there are not many sistah's in the Lou sporting sisterlocks so I can be a treadsetter, sort of. The natural hair movement is in full effect in St. Louis, while I was at home for Christmas I kept spotting brothas and sistahs rocking their own natural God given hair... It was truely a beautiful thang.
