I finally got my hair re tighten and it feels great. I love the look of a fresh re tight! I kinda like the parts, it looks new and well maintained. Guess what, my consultant snipped off most of my relaxed ends........ yeah. I was so happy she suggested that because the times I did not roll my hair the straight ends would stick up all over the place. Honestly, having straight ends were a pain in the butt for me, cuz I had to constantly maintain them by rolling them up at night. Some people swear they only have to roll their hair once maybe twice a week, well my hair was a different story. My hair required me to roll it three to four times a week ( which I never did). If you look at some of my past pics you can tell the times I chose to be lazy and not roll my hair (lol)...but I understand each person will have a different experience with sisterlocks. I am happy to report that since the straight ends were clipped I have only curled my hair once this week, and it looks like the curls will last for awhile. So far I have not exhibited any signs of lock envy. I actually like the short locks, it's kinda chic to me. However, I do have a lock on the right side of my hair line that is thinning in the middle. I am sure at some point this lock will break, and I am okay with that too. Pretty much at this point I am just enjoying the journey and letting my hair do it's own thang. I use to be a product junkie now I only spritz water on my hair... I am totally product free. So Sally's beauty supply, Nu-Fashion Beauty Supply, and Kings Beauty and all say goodbye to any gross profits from Black Doll.... no sir you will not be getting any of my money. Again I wanted everyone to know that I will be moving back to St. Louis this Sunday ( a new consultant has been found) so post will be a bit slower than usual. By choice, my friend and I are driving back so you'll understand if you don't hear from a sistah for a few weeks. Plus I gotta find a place asap... and the new job starts a week after I touch down, so I will be extremely busy.

What I do when I really need a retight
This is what I do when I need a retight. I simply put a head band on. Cuz to be honest with y'all it looks really unkempt when I am in great need of a retight. I know my consultant says I can wait 6 weeks in between tightings but to be honest my hair grows quick and it is very kinky so my roots starts looking like a baby fro about the 5th week. So I think I will start getting retights at 4 weeks instead of 6 weeks. I always wanted my locks to look professional and neat so I think this will be for the best. I forgot to mention that I will be relocating back to St. Louis next week so the blog may be a bit slow while I move but I will still be doing updates in between the move so don't sleep on the blog (lol)! I am kinda of happy to be going home, plus there are not many sistah's in the Lou sporting sisterlocks so I can be a treadsetter, sort of. The natural hair movement is in full effect in St. Louis, while I was at home for Christmas I kept spotting brothas and sistahs rocking their own natural God given hair... It was truely a beautiful thang.

Washing My Sisterlocks
I dreaded washing my hair every week, so when my consultant told me that I would not be able to wash my hair for approx. 6 weeks I wanted to jump for joy. I do not suffer from from dry scalp, dandruff or buildup. Honestly the only thing I use on my sisterlocks is water with a few drop of tea tree oil ( 1 liter of water with, 6 drops of tea tree oil). This is a great concoction for me because it moisturize my hair with out creating buildup. Life tends to go in spurts for me, sometimes I am extra busy and other times I am bored to tears. Instead of washing my hair @ 6 weeks I actually waited 8 weeks. I banded my hair (see pics) and washed it with the sisterlock starter shampoo. After the hair was washed I rolled it on some small perm rollers and the results was kinky curling looking twist (see pics) I was okay with it. I know that I do not have many styling options at this point so I am just letting my hair do what it do. There are still a few straight ends but that is to be expected. Next week I go in for a retight and boy don't I need it as y0u can see the hair is slowly starting to fill and as that happens retights are mandatory. I can not say that I have regretted my decision to sisterlock, I still love them and I love spending 15 minutes on my hair, I love letting the soft rain drops drench my locks, and most of all my man loves it too!

My First Compliment
I was waiting for my ride at LAX airport and this brotha asked me if my hair was locked. I said, "why yes, as a matter of fact I have sisterlocks." He loved it!!! I was feeling so empowered and it made me feel good that I decided to stop placing the creamy crack in my hair, and start luving what God gave me naturally. Currently my hair still have quite a few straight ends, but there are some that feel "nappier" and have a more rounded end. I love waking up in the morning and not worrying about my hair. Don't get me wrong there has been a few bad hair days but not many. I am loving my journey and will try to convince other sistah to go natural cuz I am truly luving it.

Looking Good for Christmas
Last week I got my retight, and boy was it needed. I was suprised that it only took my consultant two hours to do the retight. I love my consultant she has such a great vibe about her and she is very in turn with my hair. I rolled my hair on some small perm rods and .... wha la... back in business.. looking like my diva self again. I am flying back home to St. Louis then going to Orlando to see a close friend so y'all know the hair had to be right!!! (lol). This is the first time my family and friends will be seeing me with my sisterlocks, and many of them were against me getting locked in the first place, so it is very important to make sure that my hair look its best. I will be gone for 14 days so the post will be light. In the mean time, have a Happy Christmas, and a wonderful New Year

Time for a retight
My hair has been sl'ed for 6 weeks and it needs a retight bad.... My consultant says because my hair is so thick I can go 6-8 weeks between retights. However they way my hair looks at this point I think I will go 4-6weeks between retights. Honestly it looks a but crazy at this point I still expect to have some (not many) bad hair days. As you can see from the pics some of my ends are super straight and others are coily. It was very hard to cut all the relaxer out because some parts had an extremely large amount of staight hair and other parts had grew out quite nicely with only a small amount of relaxer. So there are some ends that stick straight out and others that curl up. It seems I am still dealing with two textures of hair... but that is okay because at some point the relax ends will be removed anyway. After getting sl'ed I was surprised that the white folks at my job loved the look. As a matter of fact I get more compliments from other cultures than from black folks. I never understand that... but hey I ain't got time for others to recoginze what I already know...sisterlocks is the sh!t.. don't come telling how beautiful my hair is after it grows out cuz as far as I am concerned it is gorgous now. Anyways.... about 8 locks at the nape of my neck slipped out. I was not surprised cuz for whatever reason the hair at the nape of my neck is very fine (hazard of the creamy crack), so I know this will be an area of slippage for awhile.
I am still enjoying my hair and the freedom that comes along with it. Until next time, see ya later.

All Locked Up
Although I had not relaxed my hair in 6 months I still had a great deal of relaxed hair , my consultant reassured me that it was okay as long as I had 2" of new growth installing my sl's would be no problem. After tons of research I discovered that it takes longer to lock when there is a great deal of relaxed hair and eventually the relaxed ends would be clipped. I looked in the mirror a million times and finally decided to cut my hair down to the new growth. I was so nervous, here I was with a head full of hair, and it was the longest it had ever been in my life, now I am cutting it! To me this was a chance to show my commitment and to start with a healthy head of new growth.

On Nov 9th 2007 I got my SL's. I was so happy with the results not to mention my consultant only took 8 hours and the pain was minimal. I felt free and confidant, but don't think for one minute that I was not scared. I prayed that I did not look like a porcupine that had been scalped. But to my surprise I did not have a very scalpy look (thank God) and I was pleased with the outcome. My hair is extra course and my consultant says it is perfect for locking. To be honest I wish I would have done this years ago. This is going to be a journey and I look foward to all the ups and downs because I know my hair is doing what is suppose to do naturally. If you are considering getting sisterlocks do your research, find a great consultant that you trust, save some money, and go for it.
ps. please excuse the quality of the pics.... they were taken with my cell phone (lol)
